It’s September, and we’re still looking at triple-digit temperatures this weekend. But that won’t stop San Antonio from venturing out for plenty of evening outdoor movie screenings and live music. Read on for suggestions on how to spend your weekend.
World Heritage Festival
The 4th annual World Heritage Festival, which celebrates the UNESCO World Heritage designation of the San Antonio Missions, kicks off Friday with free music and a movie under the stars (the documentary The National Parks of Texas: In Contact with Beauty) and continues through Sunday morning with a Mariachi Mass.
On Saturday, Rehabarama will bring together hundreds of volunteers to perform repairs and maintenance work on homes near the Mission Concepción.
If home repair isn’t your speed, you can walk, run, or bike during Tour de Las Misiones. The Saturday tour provides a unique opportunity to visit and learn about the historic missions. The registration fee varies.
Mission Pachanga, a free event, closes out Saturday at Mission Park Pavilion with music, interactive activities, local vendors, food trucks, and more.

Free Movie Screening: Wonder
Wonder, adapted from the best-selling book of the same name, tells the story of a boy who looks different and navigates going to public school for the first time when he enters the fifth grade. Bring lawn chairs, blankets, snacks, and anything else you might need for an outdoor movie screening. Pre-movie fun starts at 7 p.m., and the film starts at sunset.

Hip to Be Square
The McNay Art Museum is hosting an after-hours event to benefit its contemporary collection on Friday evening. There will be 300 unique artworks from local, regional, and national artists for sale. Artists will remain anonymous until the art has been purchased. Guests can also enjoy hors d’oeuvres, cocktails, and desserts while browsing. Find tickets here.

Morning Honey For Beb – Julie Ledet
It’s First Friday, which means lots of art, vendors, and entertainment in Southtown. Cultivate!
The Bexar County Master Gardeners will host their biannual educational seminar on Saturday at the University of the Incarnate Word. Nine one-hour workshops, spanning topics from succulents to pruning ornamental shade trees, will be offered to participants. Vendors at the expo will also offer hands-on demonstrations. The DoSeum welcomes Texas author Catherine Stier, who wrote eight children’s books as well as magazine and newspaper articles, to its Guest Author Series.
