Happy Pride! San Antonio celebrates love this weekend with its annual Pride parade, filled with color, glitter, and joy. But there’s still free time before and after the celebration, and there are a ton of other activities in the city for the whole family to enjoy.
Family Pride Night and Free Screening: Love, Simon
Love, Simon is the perfect teen rom-com to watch at the start of Pride weekend. Simon is just a closeted gay teen trying to navigate high school life while falling in love and fighting a blackmailer who threatens to out him to everyone at school. Bring blankets, chairs, snacks, bug spray, and anything else you might need for an outdoor movie. Centro San Antonio and San Antonio Love List come together to host Family Pride Night starting with Drag Queen Story Time featuring This Day in June, a picture book about a Pride parade. LGBTQIA-owned food vendors and lawn games add to the night’s fun. Movie starts at sundown around 8:30 p.m.

Members of Booker T. Washington Elementary School’s photography club have put together a photo event that explores gentrification in San Antonio’s East Side. Free Screening: Cloak and Dagger
Bring the family to Mission Marquee Plaza to enjoy the 1984 spy adventure film Cloak and Dagger, in which an 11-year-old boy living in San Antonio gets tangled in a web of military secrets. A series of short films from the winners of the #FilmSA contest – in which filmmakers ages 14 to 21 focused on the theme, “If I Had One Day in San Antonio” – will be screened before the main feature. Bring blankets, chairs, snacks, and anything else you might want to have at an outdoor movie showing, and there will be food trucks if you need something more substantial. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the movie starts at sunset. Pets are welcome, and there is on-site parking.

Escape the Museum: Free Lois Lane!
In this escape room-themed activity, San Antonio Museum of Art guests must solve riddles to help Superman save Lois Lane and defeat Lex Luthor, who has planted krypton-art around the galleries to weaken the hero. Lois is trapped in the sky bridge, and only clever puzzle-solvers can help free her. Tickets cost $25 for members, $35 for non-members, and $10 for children ages 8-12. Summertime is superhero movie time, and Slab Cinema is bringing Black Panther to the San Antonio Museum of Art’s lawn on Friday night. Pride Bigger Than Texas
Get ready, San Antonio – everything is bigger in Texas, including our Pride celebrations. Head to Crockett Park for a festival hosted by Pride San Antonio, running from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday. There’s even a mass wedding happening at 3 p.m. After the sun goes down, the annual Pride Parade starts at 9 p.m. Wear all of your rainbow gear and wave your rainbow flags high.

Jungle Boogie Nights
The San Antonio Zoo continues its Saturday evening summer activities for adults with a “British Invasion” theme. Local musician Ray Calao provides live entertainment, and guests can enjoy happy hour specials on drinks, food, and family games. Admission is included in the annual pass and with standard daytime admission, but after 6 p.m. attendees pay $9 to enter.

8th Annual Free-da’s Run
Mexican artist Frida Kahlo was known for her distinctive and colorful personal style, which was captured by her many self-portraits. Kahlo was born on July 6, 1907, and you can run to honor her this Saturday while in costume. Register here for the 5K run/walk. Entry costs $35 before race day, and $40 on race day. There’s also a kids fun run for children ages 3 to 10 years old before the race. Cash prizes available for best Frida costumes.
