During the first seven days of early voting, Bexar County voters cast almost 1,500 more ballots in the Democratic primary than in the Republican primary, according to data from the elections department.
Of the total 42,755 ballots cast through Sunday, 22,091 Democratic ballots were submitted compared to 20,664 Republican ballots.
Early voting for the March 1 primary elections resumes Tuesday and continues through Friday. Polls are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Click here to view a sample ballot for the Republican primary and here for a sample Democratic ballot.
In the primary election, voters will be choosing party nominees for local, state and federal offices who will face off in the general election on Nov. 8.
The voting center at Wonderland of the Americas mall drew the most voters casting Democratic ballots with 1,222, followed by Maverick Library with 1,157, Great Northwest Library with 1,128, Lions Field Adult and Senior Center with 1,115 and Brookhollow Library with 1,077.
Among voters in the Republican primary, Brookhollow Library was the busiest voting center, drawing 1,878 voters, followed by Parman Library at Stone Oak with 1,552, Igo Library with 1,465, Semmes Library with 1,305 votes and Shavano Park City Hall with 1,227.
Texas voters are not required to be registered with a certain political party and can vote in the primary of their choosing. However, for any races that result in a runoff, voters must vote in that same party’s runoff election.
