As San Antonio settles into its usual 100-degree summer days, several venues in the city offer entertaining respite with evening outdoor movies.

Most events are free and family-friendly, with a city-sponsored pet-friendly option as well.

Slab Cinema

One way to beat the heat would be San Antonio stalwart Slab Cinema’s Movies In The Pool and Float and Flick series.

Slab’s portable inflatable movie screens appear at parks throughout the area on a regular basis, but special poolside pictures at San Pedro Springs Park and Pickrell Park Pool in Schertz offer the bonus of a cooling dip along with cinematic adventures.

Appropriately for Float and Flick at the Pickrell Park Pool location, The Little Mermaid runs June 22 and another waterworld adventure, Moana, unspools July 13.

Also in Schertz, Slab Cinema presents Trolls Band Together June 7 at Heritage Oaks Park, The Super Mario Brothers Movie at Ashley Park June 14, Minions: The Rise of Gru July 26 at Cypress Point Park and The Nightmare Before Christmas on October 18 at Wendy Swan Memorial Park.

The Movies in the Pool at San Pedro Springs Park season started June 1 with Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. Check the Slab Cinema Facebook page to find out when the next showings will be.

The full Slab Cinema schedule, featuring events in Bulverde, at Civic Park, Travis Park, Rodriguez Park, Bullis Park and other locations, is available online, and includes many of the movies listed here.
