Lopez is making his second run for Congress after running as an independent conservative candidate in 2022. An Army veteran, he joined the Border Patrol, becoming an ordained minister and founding member of the Border Patrol Chaplaincy Program before his retirement in 2018. He also served as the chairman of the Val Verde County Republican party.
