San Antonio targets $909K from opioid settlement to reduce overdoses

The dollars come as San Antonio continues to reel from overdose rates, largely driven by methamphetamine, heroin and fentanyl poisoning.

Isaac Mercado hugs Madelein Santibañez, director of harm reduction at Corazón Ministries Monday before he leaves to go to his first job since 1989. Mercado was born addicted to heroin and battled a severe addiction for more than four decades, before seeking recovery six months ago. He shares that his life was saved by someone who administered Narcan to him when he was overdosing.
