With much focus on the coming eclipse, this weekend’s Go Do That! offers art, music and poetry leading up to the big event.
The nonprofit Hearts Need Art is starting an Artist Gallery, with a 4 p.m. mixer Thursday at La Tuna, then a 6 p.m. opening right across the street at Flax Studios upstairs at Blue Star Arts Complex.
Meshell Ndegeocello takes the Carver Community Cultural Center mainstage Saturday at 8 p.m. for a concert featuring her ever-evolving exploration of American writer and activist James Baldwin.
Viva Poesia is the city’s official kick-off to National Poetry Month at Mission Marquee Plaza. The Saturday event will be emceed by Anthony Flores and new San Antonio poet laureate Eddie Vega and features former poets laureate Andrea ”Vocab” Sanderson, Octavio Quintanilla and Carmen Tafolla. UNESCO Chef Ambassadors Leo Davila, John Tamez, Sofia Tejeda and Juan Carlos Bazan will offer culinary samples at the free event.
Also on Saturday, La Zona in the heart of downtown presents a wild show of more than 30 artists titled A Beautiful Tone, with an art market, local vendors, food and drink, live painting and music from 5-10 p.m.
And Monday, get your eclipse groove on right here in San Antonio with about a 99.9% totality view. Total Eclipse of the Park, a free event in Hemisfair’s family-friendly Yanaguana Garden, is one of many eclipse-viewing events in town.
